ITINERARY
Upon your arrival, we’ll warmly welcome you at the airport and provide an overview of your itinerary before embarking on a scenic drive to Thimphu. Along the way, we’ll make a stop to visit Bhutan’s oldest suspension bridge, a historic landmark dating back to the 15th century. As we continue our journey, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the confluence of the Thimphu and Paro rivers and observe the road that connects Bhutan to India, a journey that typically takes about five hours by road. You’ll spend the night and enjoy dinner at Hotel Pelyang Boutique, a premier 3-star hotel in Thimphu.
After breakfast, we will journey north from Thimphu to begin our hike to the historic Tango Monastery, a revered 13th-century Buddhist site housing sacred Buddha statues and wish-fulfilling deities. We will enjoy a serene riverside picnic lunch before continuing our 2.5-hour hike to Dodedra Monastery. Here, we hope to secure an overnight stay at the guest house, offering a unique opportunity to join the monks for their evening prayers and potentially their morning prayers the following day, with dinner and overnight accommodation at Dodedra Monastery Guest House.
After enjoying breakfast, you’ll begin your descent to Thimphu, with a delightful stop at the popular Ambient Café for a coffee break. Following that, you’ll visit the impressive Buddha Dordenma Statue, the world’s largest seated Buddha, which was inaugurated in 2015 to commemorate Bhutan’s fourth king’s 60th birthday and offers incredible panoramic views. In the afternoon, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to Punakha Valley, traversing the Dochula Pass at 3,150 meters, where you can capture stunning photos of the snow-capped Himalayas. Your day will conclude with checking into Dharma Siddhi, a charming, family-run hotel that promises a warm and welcoming “home away from home” experience for your overnight stay and dinner.
On this day, our morning will be dedicated to exploring the magnificent Punakha Dzong, a fortress constructed by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal with the assistance of carpenter Zo Balap, celebrated for its exquisite interior artwork that exemplifies Bhutanese craftsmanship, and notably, the site where the largest Thangka scroll is unveiled during the annual festival. Following our visit to the Dzong, we will embark on a 20-minute walk to Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge, situated behind the Dzong Chung and slightly above the crematorium. The afternoon will involve a scenic drive back to Paro, once again traversing the Dochula Pass, with overnight accommodations and dinner at Hotel Paro Grand.
Our day will begin with an early morning hike to the revered Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Bhutan’s most iconic and sacred landmark, offering breathtaking views and a deep cultural experience. In the afternoon, we will journey to the picturesque Haa Valley, enjoying the scenic drive through Chelela Pass, the highest motorable pass in Bhutan. Our overnight stay and dinner will be at the charming Lechuna Heritage Home.
After a hearty breakfast at the farm, your trek begins slightly above Talung Village in Haa Valley. You’ll cover a walking distance of 5 kilometers over an estimated 4 hours, ascending to an altitude of 3,150 meters at the Sagala campsite. This will be an acclimatization day, so the pace will be relaxed. However, you’ll need to stay mindful of the trail, as some sections leading to the yak herders’ camp can be difficult to spot, and there’s also an ancient trail to Tibet on your left. You’ll enjoy overnight accommodation and dinner at the Sagala Campsite.
Today involves a 12 km trek, estimated to take 5 hours, culminating at an elevation of 3850 meters at the Nyingungla Campsite where you’ll have dinner and stay overnight. The journey begins with a gradual ascent, providing panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas, including peaks like Jomolhari and Jitchu Darkey, particularly visible on clear days. The highest point of the day will be at 4100 meters within the Sagala Range. The trail itself winds through a stunning forest, rich with junipers, hemlocks, rhododendrons, firs, and azaleas, adding to the scenic beauty of the walk.
Our day begins with a 13 km hike, estimated to take 7 hours, as we descend before making our final ascent to the highest point of the day at 4,200 meters. This peak, known as Kung Karpo or Sky Burial, offers breathtaking panoramic views of both the Paro and Haa Valleys, with a clear sight of Kila Nunnery in the distance. Following this, we will descend to Chelela Pass at 3,988 meters, where our team will be waiting to transfer us to Ka-Chi Grand in Paro for our overnight stay and dinner.
