The Druk (Dragon) Path trek is ideal for those who are in Bhutan for a short duration and want to experience the countryside, mountains, alpine meadows, glacial lakes and monasteries.

 DAYS ITINERARY

1. Arrival in Paro by Druk Air
If you are flying in from Kathmandu or Delhi, you will enjoy spectacular views of some of the highest mountains in the world (Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Kanchenjunga, Jhumolhari, Kitchu Drake). Our tour representative will pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel. Spend the evening strolling through Paro town.

2. Sightseeing in Paro
After breakfast visit the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, a fortress built in the 17th century to commemorate Bhutan’s victory against Tibetan army intruders. On the way back stop at the viewpoint of Taktsang (Tiger’s nest). We also visit a farm house. After lunch visit Ta-Dzong (National Museum) and walk down to the Paro Dzong with its traditional cantilever bridge over the Pa-chu (Paro River).

3. Paro - Jele Dzong

Distance: 10Kms.
Walking Time: 4-5 hours.
Start: Dopshare village, 2300m.
Camp: Jele Dzong, 3450m.

A gradual climb through temperate mixed forests takes you to Jele Dzong. On a clear day, Paro valley and Mount Jhumolhari are visible.

4. Jele Dzong – Jangchulakha

Distance: 10Kms
Walking Time: 3-4 hrs.
Camp: Jangulakha, 3,780m.

The trail is along a ridge through a forest of rhododendrons, maples, and junipers. One will also see the temperamental yaks and yak herders’ camps.

5. Jangchulakha – Jimilangtso

Distance: 11Kms
Walking Time: 4-5 hrs.
Camp: Jimilangtsho, 3,880m.

The trail follows a ridge through alpine forests of junipers and rhododendron shrubs. On a clear day, one can see the hamlets in the Paro valley and Mount Jitchu Drake (6989m). Camp is on the banks of Jimilangtso, a large glacial lake. These lakes are known for their giant sized trout.

6. Jimilangtso – Simkota

Distance: 11Kms
Walking Time: 4-5 hrs.
Camp: Simkota , 4040m.

The trail is through dwarf Rhododendron trees and along the shores of glacial lakes till you reach Janye Tsho. Camp is close to Simkota lake.

7. Simkota – Phajoding

Distance:10Kms
Walking Time: 3-4 hrs.
Camp: Phajoding, 3870m.

Today we climb up to Phume la. At 4,210m. this is the highest point of our trek. If the weather permits you will get beautiful views of Mt. Gangkhar Punsum (7,541m), the highest mountain in Bhutan and other Himalayan peaks. The Thimphu valley is also visible from this point.

8. Phojoding – Thimphu

Distance: 4-5Kms.
Walking Time: 3 hrs.
End of trek at Thimphu, 2,300m.
Overnight at Hotel.

Enjoy a leisurely downhill stroll to Thimphu through blue pine forests. Get a relaxing massage and enjoy the evening at your leisure.

9. Thimphu Sightseeing

Visit the Folk heritage Museum, the Institute of Chusum, the Textile Museum, the National Library, Painting School and Dechen Phodrang Monastic School. After lunch visit the Memorial Chorten which was built in the memory of the late King and Simtokha Dzong - the first Dzong built in Bhutan by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1629. A visit to the vegetable market is a must if it is a Saturday or a Sunday.

10.Thimphu - Paro
Spend the morning at your own leisure.
Drive to Paro after Lunch.
Overnight at Hotel.
